Duterte and the scary culture of impunity

I was happily spending my time yesterday
just taking it slow and checking on Facebook.
Soon, there were several posts with dead men.
Alleged kidnappers. Then a shoot to kill order by
 Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

People were actually happy about the incident; more so about the criminals being gunned down as a proof of Duterte’s strong hand in keeping the city free and clean from bad elements–literally.
I wasn’t happy about it. I was shocked, to say the least.
I was shocked to see how people laud the killings of criminals, and this coming from a democratic society. Criminals have rights as well, whether we like it or not. Even animals have rights.
